South Africa is pretty lucky, in that we don’t have to endure extreme sub-zero temperatures in winter, our moderate chill allows for great versatility when is comes to winter cover-ups. Coats are one of my favorite items of clothing, and with the temperatures dropping, its time to look for that perfect overcoat to see you through the winter months. I have put together the hottest coat trends to look out for when you embark on your winter wardrobe shopping.
Everyone should have a basic black and camel coloured coat, these are wardrobe basics. However the colours that on trend at the moment are combat green, pastel pink, burnt orange and mustard.
Foux-fur is actually trending more than real fur, which I absolutely love!! The cheesier the better, and throw in a bit of applique and you good to go.
Ponchos and Shrugs are also on trend, I love how they add interest to a plain outfit and because they are not structured you can interpret them anyway you like.
Long coats, are still quiet the craze, and very practical as it keeps the whole body warm, they look amazing with ankle boots, high or flat.
Over sized is the look to go for, it almost looks like you are wearing your dad’s coat. You can add a belt around the waist to give some shape or let it hang loose and wide. Style with sneakers or boots.
Details are very important in a wardrobe investment piece such as a coat. This seasons details are;
Big pockets, big enough to fit your entire hand and then some.
Quilted finish is a beautiful winter texture. This is not a puffer jacket look, it’s an easy quilt, without the bulk.
Unique Style-lines, this makes for an interesting coat. Pockets in unconventional places. Drawstrings, collarless etc. These details makes it individual and timeless, making the coat a focal point.
